MMXX PAVILION

Showcased in Beirut for the first time at the MMXX Pavilion during the 2019 Beirut Art Fair, the Damask Rowsary embodies all of LWJ’s symbolism in a single piece. Created in line with the exhibition as combination between the East and the West, the Damask Rowsary has a particularly story and is undeniably one of our most compelling slow-design pieces.

The process

It all starts with delicate, tiny 2mm round pearls from the Japanese sea carefully selected by André grandfather when he travelled there in the 1960s.
Today, the size and quality of such pearls are extremely hard to find and bring to mind the minute fine Bahraini pearls of the Persian Gulf a With their beautiful luster and harmonious round shape, these cultured pearls from Japan bring to mind the Bahraini pearls of the Persial Gulf and to a time where European Queen would adorn them.
We We wanted to combine the pearl’s delicacy with a delicate and pinkish symbol with a stronger emotion so we used falamank setting technic. Which consist in using rose-cut diamonds set in silver and gold. We used this technic in a cross-shape to refer to middle east Christians and Byzantin architecture. We like very much the glow of rose-cut diamonds which is quite unique, less arrogant than brillant-cut diamonds and very soothing.

The Damask Rowsary by LWJ

The result is the mix of all those symbols in this wonderful artefact already an iconic piece of LWJ, with the refinement and delicacy of western culture and the strength of oriental beauty.
